Oren C. “Buddy” Remmers

Oren C. “Buddy” Remmers, age 89, died Tuesday , February 20, 2024 at Seton Hospital in Kyle, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was born to Otto and Alice (Kasper) Remmers on March 10, 1934 on the family farm in Gonzales County, Texas, just southwest of Shiner..

He attended Mengers country school near Shiner, riding his horse to and from as his mode of transportation. He attended Shiner High School where he played on Shiner High’s first varsity football team and later graduated as class valedictorian. 

Oren or “Buddy” as his many friends called him, enrolled at Texas A&M University where he majored in Agricultural Education. He was a member of Air Force ROTC in the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1956 With a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education and went to work interning for the United States Department of Agriculture (US D.A.) Soil Conservation Service (S.C.S.) in Goldthwaite and Lampasas, Texas. Next he took positions as a Soil Conservationist working in San Saba, Llano, Alice and finally as District Conservationist for the Natural Resource Conservation Service (N.R.C.S,) for Gonzales County until his retirement after 40 plus years of service. During his career with N.R.C.S., Buddy received numerous awards for service.

Survivors are his sons, Jeff Remmers of Corpus Christ and Kirk Remmers and wife Gail of Shiner; grandson Austin Remmers (Jessica) of Shiner and great-grandchildren, Oren James Remmers and Gloria Ruth Remmers.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Gloria Ann (Kloesel) Remmers.

Oren C. “Buddy” Remmers will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation 4 to 6 p.m. with Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m, Monday, February 26, 2024 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home.

Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2024 At Shiner Luther UDML Church with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating. Burial to follow at Shiner Cemetery next to his wife.

Memorials may be given to Shiner Lutheran UDML Church.
