Gary Thomas Schurig

Gary Thomas Schurig, 69, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023.  He was born March 4, 1954, in Gonzales the son of Joe Emil Schurig and Georgia B Winegeart Schurig.  Gary graduated from Edna High School Class of 1972. He later graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a B.A. degree in Sociology.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gonzales. Throughout his working career, Gary worked with Campus Life in Edna TX, Jackson County Electric Co-op, a courier service in Dallas, a film industry craft services firm in San Antonio, he taught at the Waelder Middle School, and for the past seven years he served as director of the Gonzales Memorial Museum.

He is survived by his sisters JoLaine Schurig and Linda K Schurig Sucher and husband Steve, all of Gonzales.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents S.T. and Ethel Winegeart and Max and Alma Schurig.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 11 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Gonzales with Dr. Josh Breslaw officiating.  Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Tim Gescheidle, Ike Peterson, Tyree Schurig, Kim Spring, Frank Wallace, and Perry Winegeart.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jack Downs, Steve McMillan, Tommy Schurig, and the Edna Class of 1972.
