Fidel “Lelo” Longoria

Posted

Fidel “Lelo” Longoria, of Gonzales, gained his wings on December 27th, 2023 at the age of 81 in Round Rock, TX.  He was born September 29, 1942 in Gonzales, the son of Manuel and Aurora Zuniga Longoria.  Fidel, better known to his family and friends as “Lelo” was not a stranger to anyone he met.  He would always greet you with a handshake, smile and sometimes a witty comment if he knew you well.

Lelo worked and retired from Tyson after 42 years as a service manager.  In his younger years Lelo played men’s softball and enjoyed fishing.  He continued his baseball passion and coached his son’s in the Gonzales Little League for many years.  As time went on and grandkids and great-grandkids started playing sports you could always be sure Lelo and his wife Minnie were there to cheer them on. A practice, game or school play was never missed.  If you couldn’t find him at a game he would be at Mi Lupitas eating or at home in his room watching “Andy Griffith, Sanford and Son and game shows, with his cookies.  He also loved his Word Search books.  We cannot forget how much he enjoyed helping Minnie with the concession stand during the weekly volleyball league games, he loved visiting with everyone who visited their stand for goodies.

He is survived by his wife Herminia “Minnie”; daughter Margaret Ramirez and husband Greg; sons Michael Longoria and wife Elizabeth, Martin Longoria and Marcus Longoria all of Gonzales; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; sisters Frances Vasquez of Austin and Florence Corbin and husband Paul of Burleson; brother Felipe Longoria and wife Anita of Flatonia.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fidencio and Freddie and sister Faustina.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.  The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Jason Martini officiating.  Interment will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers include: Issac Longoria, Jalen Longoria, Jaydee Longoria, Joe Longoria, Frank Venegas III and Will O’Neal.  Honorary pallbearers include Frank Venegas IV, Grayson James Ramirez and Jax Cooper Venegas.
