In Loving Memory of Benigno Vargas Sr.

Benigno Martinez Vargas, Sr. “Bene” of Lubbock, Texas entered eternal rest on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 6:33 a.m., surrounded by his family. He lived to be 78 years, 6 months and 4 days.

Bene was born on August 13, 1945, in Moulton Texas. He and his parents would migrate for cotton season to Lubbock to work at Liberty Co-op Gin. When the season was over, they would then head home to Waelder, Texas. In 1964, while at the Liberty Co-op Gin in Lubbock a young lady by the name of Albina Reyna Alaniz caught Bene’s eye. They courted for four years and on April 20, 1968, they joined together in marriage. Their union blessed them with four children.

Though he has left this world, his gentle spirit endures in the countless hearts he touched with warmth and kindness. Bene was a man of unwavering faith. His devotion to the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life. His gentle spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He wasn’t just a provider; he was the heart and soul of his family, guiding them with wisdom and showering them with affection.

Those who knew Bene will always remember his love for “pan dulce” and “cafesito” and his heartfelt gratitude expressed with a simple yet sincere “thank you, thank you.”.  His contagious smile will be greatly missed. Bene found joy in spending time outdoors, especially seating outside on the porch. Early on he delighted in taking photos of his loved ones. Both Bene and Albina enjoyed visiting family and friends.

Bene is survived by his wife of 55 years, 9 months and 30 days, Albina Alaniz Vargas. Three daughters: Diana Cimental (Domingo), Lety Dulack (Chris), Veronica Vargas, and his son, Benny Vargas Jr. (Christina). His legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren: Nicole, Elijah (Ally), Elizabeth, Ethan, Amaya, Brianna, Quintin, and Melia, and two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Zoe. He now reunites with his dear mother, Hilaria Martinez Vargas (1904-1970), and father, Juan Lopez Vargas (1912-1996), who preceded him in death.

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales, Tx from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Waelder Cementerio Bautista in Waelder, Tx.
