David Allen Mundy

David Allen Mundy, 56, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. He was born Oct. 18, 1958 in Deer Park, the son of Joseph Allen and Barbara Jean Maness Mundy. Dave was the publisher and editor of The Gonzales Cannon newspaper for several years.  He was an accomplished newspaperman, having worked with the Orange Leader, the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, the Katy Times, as managing editor and presently the Cannon. 

Dave was the author of two books “Duh — Texas, a case study in educational takeover” and “Dances with Chihuahuas.” He won several awards for his writing. 

He will be remembered as a man of integrity and was a very moral person. He loved practical jokes and was an inspiration to his staff at the Cannon and thought of them all as family. 

He is survived by his brothers, Jeff Mundy of Houston, Charlie Mundy and wife Marlene of Ventura, Calif., Danny Mundy and wife Cheryl of Deer Park and Mike Mundy and wife Connie of Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving is his soul mate and best friend, Peg Cappadonna of Port Natchez. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A celebration of his life will be held from 6- 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at the Gonzales VFW post. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home 906 St. Paul, Gonzales 830-672-3232.
