NSHS’ Rodriguez named to ATSSB All-State Band

Posted

Nixon-Smiley High School student Camarion Rodriguez travelled to and competed at the Association of Texas Secondary School Bands (ATSSB) Area South auditions in Alice on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Rodriguez placed first out of 12 alto saxophonists in competing in the area and was selected as a member of the ATSSB All-State Band.

To put this into perspective, only about 100 3A band students from the entire state of Texas are selected yearly to a spot in the All-State Band. Camarion joins only two other students in Nixon-Smiley history that have achieved this honor!

“Camarion's hard work and dedication to musical excellence has paid off, and we are incredibly proud of his accomplishments!,” the district announced.

The ATSSB All-State Band will be performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio on Feb. 10 at 8:30 a.m.
