We are the world: Gonzales Healthcare Systems to observe Earth Day 2022

Earth Day 2022 will be observed in the United States Friday, April 22. To celebrate, Gonzales Healthcare Systems invites residents to join in the fun at the community garden with demonstrations in vegetable growing, tree cultivation, growing flowers, with plenty of treats and goodies available to attendees.

The community garden took root in 2015 with Cynthia Green, licensed dietitian and internationally certified lactation expert, spearheading the project in her mission to cultivate healthy and homegrown eating habits.

The garden encompasses more than two acres and involved many volunteers and contributions from local companies.

“We’ve developed some great partnerships for this project,” Green said. “One of them is with the city of Gonzales, who came in and installed water spigots.”

The community garden is located behind Gonzales Healthcare Systems on Winding Way Drive, with demonstrations planned for 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

People are being told to bring seeds for a seed exchange.

“We also are encouraging people to give part of their harvest to people in need; back into the community to families to share,” Green said. “That’s really what it’s all about.”
