WAELDER — Taking on the fourth ranked team in all of Class 1A proved to be too much of a heavy task for the Waelder Lady Wildcats as they dropped their home game 79-19 against #4 Moulton Bobkittens.

Moulton used their press to frustrate Waelder offensively as the state-ranked Kittens ran through a 32-4 first quarter. Moulton did not loosen up on defense as they allowed just four points in the second quarter, adding 18 to their total to go up 50-8 by the half. Moulton went away from the press in the second half, outscoring Waelder 20-4 in the third quarter and 9-7 in the fourth to claim the 60-point victory.

Malorie Puente led the team in scoring with 11 points. Daniel Niño added four points while Honesty Fields and Brejhai Montgomery had two points each.

Waelder travels Friday to take on Round Top-Carmine. In their first meeting of the district season, the Lady Cats beat Round Top-Carmine 44-36.
