A New Braunfels woman remains in the Guadalupe County Jail in lieu of $1.5 million bond after she was arrested in connection with an accident that claimed the life of a Gonzales woman one month earlier.

Seguin police arrested 51-year-old Sylvia Rodriguez of New Braunfels at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, on a warrant for one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

A preliminary investigation revealed Rodriguez was driving a Jeep Liberty westbound in the eastbound lanes in the 1200 block of West Kingsbury in Seguin when the vehicle collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Outlander at about 3:10 a.m. Sunday, March 13.

Elizabeth Solis, 20, of Gonzales, a passenger in the Mitsubishi, was transported by helicopter to a San Antonio area hospital, where she later died from her injuries, police said.

The 22-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi, who is a San Antonio resident, was transported by Seguin EMS to a hospital in Kyle in critical condition. Rodriguez was also taken by ambulance to a Kyle hospital in critical condition. She reportedly stated to officers that she consumed multiple alcoholic beverages prior to driving.

After an investigation by Seguin Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Judge Sheryl Sachtleben issued an arrest warrant for Rodriguez for intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and intoxication assault, a third-degree felony.

Rodriguez was arrested at her New Braunfels residence. Bond was set at $1.5 million total and the case against her will be presented to a Guadalupe County grand jury.
