Richard Francis “Dicky” Hardcastle

Richard Francis “Dicky” Hardcastle, 76, of Gonzales, went to Heaven on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Dicky was born November 19, 1941 in Gonzales County to Lloyd Seth Hardcastle and Irene Helen Schlick Hardcastle. Dicky lived in Gonzales, Texas all of his life. He graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1960 and married his sweetheart, partner, friend and helpmate Carol Rhea Turk on Aug. 29, 1964.

Dicky and Carol Rhea were blessed with two sons, Richard Brent Hardcastle of Gonzales who married Rebecca Davis and blessed Dicky and Carol Rhea with three grandchildren, Richard Jake, Thomas and Sam Hardcastle and Dicky and Carol Rhea’s second son Mitchell Clint Hardcastle who married Talli Jo Brown who blessed them with Tanner, and their first little girl in the family, Kooper Layne Hardcastle.

Dicky and Carol Rhea have a ranch where Dicky raised poultry and cattle. Dicky loved the outdoors; he was excited and amazed by the miracle of the birth of each calf and of seeing new grass after a fresh rain. He loved riding through the countryside, especially when the grass and trees were thriving. Dicky was an avid fisherman and took great joy in pulling in a big yellow cat. He taught his oldest grandson Tanner all his secrets of fish frying.

Dicky always wanted to make things easier for others. He never met a stranger and he had many good fishing buddies and special friends from his school days in Gonzales. He and Carol Rhea have taught their children and grandchildren to respectful, loyal, loving and to make this world a better place. Dicky had a special love of family and each one knew he loved them!

Dicky Hardcastle is survived by his adoring wife of 53 years, Carol Rhea Hardcastle, loving sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Brent and Rebecca Hardcastle, Mitchell Clint and Talli Hardcastle, grandchildren, Tanner, Richard Jake, Thomas, Kooper and Sam Hardcastle all of Gonzales, sisters, Carolyn Hardcastle Caraway of Alice, Elizabeth Ann Hardcastle Wright and husband Roy of Bartlesville, OK, brothers, Kenneth Hardcastle of Seguin, Steve Hardcastle of Houston and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Vernon Bruns, brother-in-law, Franklin Caraway, and sister-in-law, Sandy Hardcastle.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 in The Presbyterian Church with Pastor Diana Whitley officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to the Gonzales County EMS who were always so helpful and serve the residents of Gonzales County so faithfully, memorials may be mailed to Gonzales Co.
