Noon Lions Club announces next phase of East Avenue Lions Park renovations

The Gonzales Noon Lions Club has only just begun when it comes to renovations and expansion at East Avenue Lions Park playground.

Phase One of the project, which includes installing a sunshade over the seating area of the splash pad, has been completed, but now attention has shifted to the second phase, which includes removing the 25 year-old playscape and replacing it with an all-inclusive, ADA safety compliant playscape and additional park seating that can be used by all members of the community, according to club members.

“We have worked alongside community leaders to design a playground that will welcome all kids and families of all abilities to learn, play, and grow together,” said Gonzales Noon Lions Club Foundation President Cindy Rodriguez, Gonzales Noon Lions Club President Cynthia Green and Park Improvement Chairperson Garen Reese in a press release.

“For the last 25 years, the existing playground has been loved by the community of Gonzales, as well as surrounding communities. However, it is no longer ADA complaint nor friendly for children with special needs. By replacing the existing playground structures with one large playground, we are equipping children of all abilities with an inclusive environment and the skills to play together independently, creating a sense of community among children.”

The Gonzales Noon Lions Club Foundation (GNLCF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking tax-deductible donations to help offset the cost of the project, which is expected to cost about $275,000. The city of Gonzales and the Pilot Club of Gonzales have committed to helping fund the project, but it will take additional funds from the community to make it a reality.

The Gonzales Noon Lions Club has been a vital part of Gonzales for more than 83 years, impacting countless lives with their motto of “We Serve.”
