Jailhouse Rock fundraiser to benefit County Jail Museum

It’s now or never if you want to buy tickets for the Gonzales County Jail Museum’s first-ever Jailhouse Rock fundraiser, to be held from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at GG’s Steaks & Spirits, 216 Middle Buster Road, Gonzales.

Tickets are only on sale through Oct. 21. Surrender, return to sender and spend $35 per person ($50 per couple to bring your latest flame) because you don’t have a wooden heart, and if you don’t try a little less conversation and a little more action, please, you may find yourself crying in the chapel or all shook up at the end of lonely street in the Heartbreak Hotel once tickets are gone.

The event will pay tribute to the Elvis Presley’s immortal “Jailhouse Rock” and is being held near the anniversary of his Oct. 28, 1956, second performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” when he performed “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Hound Dog” along with “Love Me Tender.”

There will be an Elvis impersonator present as well as a floor show of old-time Western music. The Gonzales Lions Club will hold a 50-50 drawing and there will also be a jail cell where people can be “arrested” and held for “bond” that will benefit the museum. First responders will also participate in an “Elvis-Off” of their own!

On the menu will be “jailhouse stew and cornbread,” the very meal prisoners turned themselves back in for if they broke out of jail too early!

Tickets can be bought at the museum or by calling 830-263-4663 or at the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture or at Granny’s Timeless Treasures.
