Jailer arrested, fired for assaulting inmate

A Gonzales County Sheriff's Office jailer has been fired from his job after he was arrested Thursday, April 21, and charged with allegedly assaulting an inmate.

Tristian Palmer faces one count of assault with bodily injury. His bond was set at $7,500 and he has been terminated as a result of the isolated incident, Sheriff Keith Schmidt said Thursday.

The offense is being investigated by both the Texas Rangers and the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office.

Assault by bodily contact is a Class A misdemeanor and is punishable by up to a year in jail and $4,000 in fines.
