David William Hallmark, 69, of Wrightsboro, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. David was born Aug. 18, 1949 in Gonzales to William Albert Hallmark and Doris Smith Hallmark. He married Cathy Sue Parker on May 6, 1977 in LaGrange. David was a member of the Gonzales Elks Lodge and the Independent Cattlemen’s Association.

David was a generous man who never missed a chance to help his family. He shared his interests with them and taught them to work hard and enjoy life. When his children were young he instilled in them a love of water. The family enjoyed spending time together on the lakes and rivers of Central and South Texas.

He owned two boats, a ski boat so they could go skiing and tubing in the summer, and a fishing boat that he and his son spent many hours on bonding together. Later he made sure the tanks on his place were well stocked with fish for his grandchildren to carry on the tradition.

David also loved to watch his son and grandchildren compete in sports. He traveled all over Texas watching his son play baseball as a child, and once even flew from a work commitment in Austin to Amarillo for a Friday night football game and then back to Austin the same night. He helped his daughter get her first job after college working with him at Verizon. The two enjoyed working together until she was transferred to the Dallas area.

David was an excellent cook and loved to barbecue for his family.  He would even go without food himself to ensure that others had plenty. During his retirement, David began a second career as a cattleman. He and his wife raised cattle on the family ranch in Wrightsboro. He loved the peaceful country life. Sometimes he would spend hours just riding county roads.  He enjoyed time with friends and family and he will be greatly missed.

David is survived by his adoring family, wife Cathy Sue Hallmark of Wrightsboro; daughter and son-in-law, Alison and James Schmicek of Weimar; son and daughter-in-law, Parker Lynn and Kelly Hallmark of San Angelo; brother and sister-in-law, Truman and Betty DuPree of Gonzales; grandchildren, Hadley and Judson Hallmark of San Angelo, Cullen and Layton Schimcek of Weimar.  David was preceded in death by his parents William and Doris Hallmark.
