Cardinals shut out Flatonia Bulldogs

SHINER — The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals (4-0) were able to shut out their visitors the Flatonia Bulldogs (2-2), winning the home bout 19-0.

The Cardinals registered 23 first downs to Flatonia’s six while rushing 49 times for 292 yards in comparison to Flatonia’s 16 carries for 50 yards.

The Bulldogs did edge St. Paul 102-17 in passing yards, however.

T.J. Bell led the team in rushing, carrying the ball 24 times for 131 yards and two scores. Ted Janecek was right behind with six carries for 77 yards. Austin Barton was 2-for-6 passing, with one completion to Ryan Geiger for a 12-yard score and another to Colton Machart for a five-yard gain. Unfortunately, Barton also threw a pick.

Shiner St. Paul begins district play at home this week as they take on Schertz John Paul II (2-2), with kickoff scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
