It was a typical day in the office for the Shiner football team on Friday.

The Comanches ran the ball almost at will and the opposition committed more turnovers and penalties. A 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter was just enough for Shiner (3-1) in a 45-7 victory over Randolph Friday at Randolph Field Air Force Base in Universal City.

The Comanches got off to a quick start as Evel Jones scored from 60 yards out just 23 seconds into the game. Jacob Stafford added the two-point conversion run to give Shiner an 8-0 lead.

On the Comanches’ ensuing possession, Trevion Flowers hit Kris Patek for a 14-yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 15-0 at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter. Flowers got into the scoring act again when he scored on a 96-yard run to help Shiner build a 21-0 lead with 7 minutes left in the opening quarter.

Jones scored on a 67-yard run with 3:42 left in the first quarter to give his team a 27-0 advantage. Randolph got on the scoreboard at the 7:49 mark of the second quarter thanks to a 10-yard touchdown pass from Zach Trujillo to Jackson King.

The Trujillo-to-King score cut the Comanches’ lead to 27-7. But just 16 seconds later, Flowers hit Caleb Kalich for a 26-yard score to give Shiner a 33-7 lead.

The Comanches led 33-7 at halftime and held that lead until Flowers scored from three yards out with 29 seconds left in the third quarter. Flowers added a 7-yard touchdown run at the 8:54 mark of the fourth quarter to cap the scoring at 45-7.

Flowers accounted for more than 200 yards and five touchdowns on offense. He ran 10 times for 138 yards and three touchdowns, and also completed 5-of-9 passes for 64 yards and two scores.

Jones led all rushers with 169 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Kalich led all receivers with two catches for 34 yards and a score.

Shiner also took advantage of seven Randolph (1-3) turnovers and eight penalties by the Ro-Hawks in building their lead. The Comanches visit Thrall at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Weimar 22, St. Paul 21

Weimar accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense as the Wildcats rallied past St. Paul, 22-21, Friday at Comanche Stadium in Shiner. Weimar (2-1) received 109 rushing yards and a touchdown from JaKyle Harris as well as 126 yards passing and 60 yards rushing from Seth Helmcamp.

St. Paul (1-2) got things going early thanks to a 5-yard touchdown run from Adam Hollenbach to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead at the 7:43 mark of the first quarter. But the Wildcats responded with 2-yard touchdown run from DeLexus Gordon and a two-point conversion pass from Helmcamp to Payton Wells to put Weimar up 8-7 with 5:46 left in the opening quarter.

That lead stood until the 3:59 mark of the third quarter when Harris scored on a 66-yard run and Helmcamp added the two-pointer to give the Wildcats the largest lead of the game, 16-7. But St. Paul used a 3-yard touchdown run from Hollenbach and a two-point pass from Dakota Kresta to Martin Kennedy to pull within a point, 16-15, with 2:47 left in the third.

The Cardinals regained the lead at the 5:42 mark of the fourth quarter when Kresta scored on a 37-yard run to give his team a 21-16 lead. But Gordon scored the game-winner from three yards out with 4:48 left in the contest.

Hollenbach led St. Paul with 107 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Kresta had 72 yards and a score on 10 carries.
