Apaches playoff primed

The Gonzales Apaches are locked and loaded for the playoffs after dismantling Poteet 71-14 on Friday.

Gonzales (19-11, 8-4 in Dist. 28-3A) will face Hondo (25-5, 10-2 in Dist. 27-3A) in a bidistrict game on Tuesday at Wagner High School in Converse at 7 p.m.

The Apaches were treacherous on defense against Poteet holding the lowly Aggies to seven points in the first half.

Mark Hastings finished with 18 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists in the rout. Jon Anthony Casares went 6-of-6 from inside the arc and finished with 16 points. Kedrick Cray added 13 points.

The Apaches finished in third place in 28-3A behind co-champions Sam Houston and Pleasanton.

Hondo is currently ranked 19th on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
