Local cowgirl takes second in rodeo

The Gonzales Pro Rodeo event sanctioned by the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) ended with one Gonzales-native cowgirl winning prize money.

Loni Kay Lester took second place in Barrel Racing with her time of 16.493 seconds. Kristi Johnson won the event with a time of 16.353.

Other event winners include Lee Cherry who won the Bareback event with a score of 84.0. Cherry beat out Zane Caddell who scored an 81.0.

In Break Away, Payton Powell won with a score of 2.910 seconds. Powell had the only sub-three seconds score, beating out Kary Ann Keaton who was timed at 3.060 seconds.

Jake Gregory won the top score in Bull Riding with a 91.0, beating out Tres Garcia 89.0.

In Calf Roping, Ace Slone was the only cowboy with a sub-eight seconds time, winning with a 7.780-second run. Slone beat out Cole Moody who was timed at 8.630 seconds.

Bill Herbert took first in Saddle Bronc with a score of 86.0. He beat out Cody Gaines and Malcom Allen who split the second-place winnings with a score of 79.0.

Josh Hefner and Cade Goodman split the first-place winnings in Steer Wrestling with a time of 3.800 seconds. They beat out Orrin Fontenot who was timed at 4.400 seconds.

The team of Cody Rosenquest and Jarrett Gutierrez won Team Roping with a time of 5.190 seconds. Dakota Shipp and Cody Pierce took second with a time of 5.400 seconds.
