No injuries reported after SUV crashes into post office

GONZALES — A woman walked away uninjured after police said she crashed her SUV into the front of the post office last Tuesday.

At 3:17 p.m. Jan. 5, Officer Victor Izaguirre was dispatched to the post office at the 900 block of St. Joseph St. in reference to a vehicle hitting the building, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Upon arrival Izaguirre saw a white Ford Explorer pressed up against the front of the building. The officer asked the driver if she needed medical attention, which she declined.

“She said she was not hurt, just shaken up,” Taylor said. “The officer called for EMS anyway to get her checked out.”

The driver’s husband later arrived at the scene and moved the vehicle, and Izaguirre did not see any damage to the building — just to a shrub in front.

“There was some minor damage to the vehicle,” Taylor said. He added that police believe the crash occurred because the driver hit the gas and brake pedals at the same time, thus losing control of the vehicle.
