WAELDER — Three travelers from Houston were killed Monday when they lost control of their sedan and crossed the median on Interstate 10, colliding with an 18-wheeler.

The Texas Highway Patrol reported that at 12:30 p.m. Monday, 27-year-old Anny Vu, 29-year-old Nhan Tang and 19-year-old Hoai Nguyen were travelling westbound on I-10 near the Waelder Shell station when their 2007 Kia Spectra sedan lost control and veered into the median, under the barrier cables and into the eastbound, inside lane.

A 2015 Freightliner 18-wheeler driven by 26-year-old Calvin Chambers and 25-year-old Yaw Nacoh, both of Springfield, Mo., was heading east when the sedan slid into their path, causing the 18-wheeler to collide with the sedan. The impact sent the sedan careening into the median, ejecting the driver and back seat passenger. The 18-wheeler then skidded sideways before jackknifing and coming to a rest on the shoulder.

First responders found Vu, Tang and Nguyen dead at the scene. Chambers and Yaw were reported to be uninjured.
