A wreck on Interstate 10, during which three 18-wheelers collided, claimed the life of a San Antonio man last week.

The Texas Highway Patrol reported that at 1 p.m. July 8, a 2016 Freightliner driven by Steve Brown, 57, of San Antonio, was headed westbound on I-10 in the right lane when it smashed into the back of a stationary vehicle (another big rig) parked on the shoulder of the road.

Troopers said the driver of the parked truck, a 2005 Freightliner driven by Onyegbule Okonko of Houston, was in the passenger seat when the collision occurred and was uninjured. According to the report, Okonko had placed warning triangles behind his truck, but Brown had accidentally weaved onto the shoulder, causing the collision. Okonko had two blown out tires and was waiting for a tire service out of San Antonio.

Troopers said after striking the truck, Brown swerved to the left, colliding with a 2016 Peterbilt driven by Fernando Castillo, 39, of Laredo. Castillo was uninjured, troopers reported.

Brown, who troopers said was driving 60 miles per hour, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 1 JP Deidra Voigt.
