WAELDER — A Friday night shooting at the Right Choice store in Waelder has resulted in the death of one man. Two other victims are being treated at a San Antonio hospital for gunshot wounds.

The Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls at about 8:35 p.m. Friday, July 24 reporting a shooting at the store in downtown Waelder, according to a statement released by GCSO on Monday.

Officers found three men had been shot with a .22 caliber rifle. Waelder Police Officer Eric Jones was able to detain the shooter, who has been identified as Otis Ray Jarmon.

The three victims — Arthur Aguilar, José Aguilar and Francisco Aguilar were airlifted to hospitals in Austin and San Antonio. Francisco Aguilar died Sunday from injuries sustained during the incident.

As of Monday afternoon, Jarmon was in custody at the Gonzales County Jail on three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second degree felony. His bond on those chargers was set at $150,000 by Justice of the Peace Darryl Becker.

More charges are likely to follow, according to Glori Wyatt, spokeswoman for GCSO.

“This is just the start of the investigation,” Wyatt said. “The Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office would like to offer their prayers to the victims and their families.”

Officers from Gonzales Police Department, Moulton Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety provided assistance at the crime scene.
