GONZALES — Two people out of Austin were arrested after police said they caught them with crack cocaine.

On Sept. 7, Sgt. J.D. Holt spotted parked vehicle facing the wrong side of the roadway at the 1000 block of Robertson St., Capt. Allen Taylor reported. The car then drove away, turning left onto Johnson St. Pulling the car over, Holt identified the driver as Melissa Gayle Schneider, 53, and the passenger as Robert Lynn Johnson, 58, both of Austin.

During a search of the vehicle officers found an open container of alcohol, as well as three small plastic bags containing a rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine. Both subjects denied being in possession of the drugs, and were arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. They are charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1. It was also determined that Johnson was wanted on a local warrant.

Locals nabbed for cocaine, pills

On Sept. 9, Sgt. Holt was dispatched to the Sonic on St. Joseph St. in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, Hole learned from an employee that the people causing the disturbance were in a nearby vehicle.

Holt pulled the car over and identified the driver as Deanna Lee Leal, and the passenger as Blake O’Neal Mathis, both of Gonzales.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a pill bottle, as well as additional pills located in the back seat. The pills were not prescribed to either of the subjects, Taylor said.

Also found was a scale containing residue that appeared to be cocaine, as well as a bag containing marijuana seeds. Neither Leal nor Mathis admitted to possessing the drugs, so both were arrested.

Leal, 34, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mathis was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man jailed for synthetic weed

On Sept. 12, Sgt. Dewey Sumner was patrolling the 1200 block of Robertson St. when he saw a car run a stop sign at the 1300 block of Dallas St. Sumner pulled the car over and identified the driver as Milton Dennis Jones, 31, of Gonzales.

A background check revealed Jones’ driver’s license was expired, and Jones was arrested.

The officer asked Jones if he had anything illegal in the car, which Jones denied, Taylor said.

However, officers eventually found synthetic marijuana on the ground beside the car door. The drug was inside the car’s ashtray, which officers said Jones had thrown out of the car.

Jones was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with tampering with evidence, possession of a substance in penalty group 2A and driving with an invalid license.
