Juvenile drinking lands man in jail

GONZALES — What started out as a Saturday night party ended in a Sunday morning trip to county jail with the host charged with providing alcohol to minors, officials say.

At 1:04 a.m. April 26, Officer Gabriel Trevino was dispatched to the 700 block of Saint Michael St. in reference to a loud party in the area, according to Capt. Allen Taylor. Upon arrival, Trevino and Officer Jonathan Lorton encountered a group of people on the front porch of the home, who quickly ran inside — except for one minor who was seen drinking a bottle of beer.

Officers spoke with the man residing at the home. He was identified as Angel Reyna, 27, of Gonzales. The officers discovered two more minors drinking alcohol as well, Taylor said.

Because the drinking was taking place at his home, Reyna was arrested and charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor. He also received a verbal warning for the excessive noise. Reyna was taken to the Gonzales County Jail.

At 4:30 p.m. April 25, Lorton was parked in the 1400 block of Seydler St. when he saw a blue Toyota traveling north at a high rate of speed. After stopping the vehicle he identified the driver as Robert James Hand, 57, of Corpus Christi. Lorton immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car, Taylor said.

The officer then conducted a search of the vehicle that led to the discovery of a silver cylinder used to grind marijuana. Lorton also found a container filled with a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, as well as a pipe for smoking the drug, and a silver tube containing a needle for cleaning the pipe. Hand was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug free zone (a Class A misdemeanor) and taken to Gonzales County Jail.

At 3:50 p.m. April 12, Officer Trey Tunis was dispatched to the Monte Vista apartments in the 900 block of Williams St. in reference to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival Tunis spoke with the victim who said her husband — Marcos Leon, 21, of Gonzales — had kicked her repeatedly in the back and punched her in the head before throwing her to the ground. Tunis noticed injuries consistent with the victim’s description of the assault. Tunis arrested Leon and he was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with assault family violence.
