The City of Gonzales voted and approved of an amendment to the Victoria College campus expansion project on Tuesday.

The Gonzales Economic Development Corporation approved of a contract with changes. Though city council approved of the agreement before changes, a second vote for approval was needed with the final documents in place.

GEDC committed $400,000 toward the cost of the project which includes an 8,600 square foot welding and construction trades training center and approximately 1,100 square feet for a science lab facility.

Though Victoria College offered welding courses, the new building trades academy will expand the program to include building trades construction.

Also, the expanded science lab will increase in size to accommodate 24 seats, doubling that of what the previous science lab offers.

A projected start for construction is this summer with a full frame done by fall 2011. Completion is projected for the spring/summer 2012.

Dr. Robert Garrett and the Victoria College Board of Directors approved of the documents prior to the GEDC meeting with changes.

According to Jeff Moore, GEDC attorney, the changes are unsubstantial and do not change the overall intent of the performance agreement.

Schroeder Mayor Pro-Tem

Council approved of District 1 seat Gary Schroeder as Mayor Pro-Tem in accordance with the city charter.

Schroeder was up for re-election but was unopposed along with District 2 councilman Tommy Schurig. Both were administered the oath of office.
