Burglary suspects adds to his woes

Daniel Navejar remains in Gonzales County Jail after he reportedly tried to fight his way out of being taken into custody.

Navejar, 39, of Gonzales, was wanted on a warrant in connection to a string of vehicle burglaries committed in March. But when local authorities happened upon him on June 30, he made it painfully clear he had no intention of going quietly.

Gonzales Police Capt. Allen Taylor reported that when officer J.D. Holt sighted Navejar near the 200 block of St. Joseph Street, he pulled over to arrest him. But Navejar wasn’t having it.

When Holt attempted to apprehend Navejar, a scuffle ensued, during which Navejar allegedly head-butted Holt and bit him.

“When Holt tried to put the cuffs on Navejar, he bit him on the arm,” Taylor said. “But the bite wasn’t serious and did not break the skin.”

Holt was treated at the scene by EMS for his injury and released.

It was also reported that Sandy Hidalgo, 38, of Gonzales, had been informed by GPD of Navejar’s warrant and was instructed to contact authorities when she knew his whereabouts. Hidalgo admitted to having spoken to Navejar prior to his arrest, but did not relate that information to the police. She was arrested and jailed that same day on a charge of hindering apprehension.

Hidalgo was subsequently released from Gonzales County Jail. No release date or bond amount were available as of press time.

Navejar faces charges of assault on a public servant ($10,000 bond), evading/resisting arrest ($5,000 bond) and burglary ($5,000 bond).
