GONZALES — Gonzales ISD on Thursday named Kodi Crane the new district Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the Gonzales Apaches.

In a press release this morning, GISD announced they were “excited to have Mr. Crane, his wife Leslie and two children Braxton and Kasen to join us in serving students of GISD.”

“Mr. Crane comes highly qualified and most recently served as the Athletic Director/HD FB coach in Groesbeck ISD. We are so fortunate to have Mr. Crane on board.”

In a phone interview conducted this morning, Crane said he and his family were excited to come here to Gonzales where he “loved the history and the community as a whole.”

Crane said he was “committed to success” and wants to bring championship levels of play for all programs.

“He believes in the total program and includes citizenship, scholarship and sportsmanship as key ingredients to a successful athletic program and successful students,” the release noted. “He looks forward to working with our students and staff and becoming united in the community to build an athletic program with a foundation of supportive and competent coaches, parental involvement and young people becoming productive citizens.”

Crane understands the high expectations of the Apaches’ head coaching duties, but notes that you don’t want a job without having high expectations.

Crane’s previous stint was in Groesbeck where he led the Goats to the playoffs both years.

The release states, “Mr. Crane comes highly recommended, was well received in his previous districts and learned from professional experience beginning with the training he received from his father, who was an athletic director, head coach and is now retired from education. We welcome Mr. Crane and look forward to getting started with our athletic program planning as he takes the helm the first week of March.”

Crane will begin his coaching duties March 3.
