James Thibodeaux

James Thibodeaux, 93, a loving husband and father, peacefully passed away, Sunday, April 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones on his family farm in Shiner, TX.   James, the sixth child of seven siblings, was born to Ellen Ledet and Caesar Tucker Thibodeaux in Port Arthur, TX, on May 15, 1930.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, in 1949.  He joined the Army and served in the Korean War from 1951-53.  After the war, James went to college and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelors and Masters in Agricultural Sciences and certifications in Chemistry.  James started his teaching career in the Houston area.

On June 5, 1965, James married his sweetheart and fellow teacher, Marilyn K. McCullough, in Channelview, Texas.  James and Marilyn purchased land and moved with their son, Christopher (Bubba), to the country in Shiner, Texas in 1970. In 1971, to James, Marilyn, and Bubba’s surprise, had the first and only set of triplets born at the Shiner Hospital.  James had a passion for animals, including horses, dogs, snakes, milk goats, cattle, and bucking bulls.

James retired from teaching high school chemistry for Yoakum High School.  James served as the Lavaca County Democratic Party Chairman for many years. James served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 231 in Shiner, Texas.  James was an active member in the Shiner Chamber of Commerce and members of St. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church, the VFW, the Shiner Masonic Lodge and Knights of Columbus.

James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn and their four children, Christopher Carter Thibodeaux and wife Amy, James Todd Thibodeaux and wife Carey, Anne Clarice, and husband Steven Butler, and Rebecca Oliver-Bromenshenkel and husband Gregory Bromenshenkel.  And his 11 grandchildren, Grant, Micheala, Henry, and Addison Butler, Sadie, Travis, and Audrey Thibodeaux, Lexie and Lilie Oliver, Drew, and Todd Bromenshenkel.  And many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers - Chuck Thibodeaux, Henry “Scuddy” Thibodeaux, and sisters, Myrtis Laemmle, Pearl Abshire, Jeanette Kemp, and Mary Dell Thibodeaux.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with prayers of the holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. followed by a Eulogy at 7:30 p.m. all at Shiner Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. A burial will follow at the Moulton City Cemetery in Moulton, TX. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Wilkinson, the staff at Hallettsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Crown Hospice, and Natalie Mesa for the love and care they showed James.
