Gonzales unemployment rate lowest in area at 2.7 percent

Unemployment in Gonzales County was at 2.7 percent for December 2022, tied for the lowest rate of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for December 2022 was 3.4 percent, slightly lower to the state average of 3.6 percent. This represented a total of

3,053 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 90,299 people.

The other county reporting a rate equal to Gonzales County is Dewitt County, with an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent —  Lavaca County at 3.0 percent, Jackson County at 3.2 percent, Calhoun County at 3.3 percent, Victoria County at 3.8 percent and Goliad County at 4.0 percent. 

For December 2022, there were 256 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,428 with 9,210 reported as employed. In November 2022, there were 285 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 9,341 for a total unemployment rate of 3.1 percent.

In December 2021, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent. The 2.7 percent unadjusted unemployment rate for December 2022 is the lowest seen in Gonzales County since it was just 2.6 percent in April 2022.
