Wildcats advance to area track meet

The Waelder Wildcats took on the District 30-1A track meet last week, with many athletes advancing to the area meet.

On the girls’ side, two athletes won gold in their respective event. Malorie Puente took first in the shot put while Aquria Fields placed first in the 100-meter dash. Fields also took fourth in the 200-meter dash and in the long jump.

Meanwhile, Bre Montgomery placed fourth in shot put. Fatima Torres took fifth in the 1600-meter run, Mirasol Aguilar took fifth in the 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay team of Laisha Rangel, Raven Rodriguez, Malorie Puente, and Aquira Fields took 5th.

The boys also have a district champion with Isaiah Jones-Miller winning the 100-meter race.

Miguel Morales was busy, placing third in the 3200-meter and the 1600-meter runs. John Auiglar took fourth in the 1600-meter.

Colby Thorne placed fourth in the 100-meter, Josh Jones-Miller placed fourth in the long jump, Isaiah Ewing took sixth in the long jump and Alexander Mendoza took sixth in the shot put. The 4x100-meter relay team of Josh Jones-Miller, Carlos Reyes, Isaiah Ewing, and Colby Thorne placed third.

“All the athletes did well and competed to the best of their abilities,” Athletic Director Martha Zuniga said of the teams. “We are very proud of the efforts.”
