Walter H. Kuck, 84, of Shiner, Texas passed away Saturday, June 3 at Shiner Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shiner.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gonzales, Texas with Reverend Elaine Gomulka officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. prior to the service in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gonzales.

Walter was born January 29, 1933 in Lavaca County, Texas. He was the son of Walter W. J. Kuck and Leonitha (Tietjen) Kuck. Walter attended Ruppert School near Cheapside and graduated from Gonzales High School in 1950. Afterward, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army and was stationed for almost two years in Germany.

On June 15, 1958, he married Janice Ruth Breitkreutz in Cuero, Texas at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He was a farmer/rancher in the Cheapside area, raising poultry and hatching eggs, corn, milo, wheat, oats, hogs, and cattle. He also did custom harvesting, hay cutting and baling. Walter valued hard work and being productive at all times, but appreciated a restful nap on Sunday afternoons. He was a member of the Gonzales Young Farmers, the Texas Pork Producers Association, and the Lutheran Church in Shiner, Texas; and served as a 4-H leader helping with 4-H projects as his children grew up.

Walter is survived by his four children: Carol Martin, and her husband, Delbert, of Cuero, Texas; Michael Kuck, and wife, Barbara, of Luling, Texas; Robert Kuck, and wife, April, of LaGrange, Texas; Susan Sankey, and husband, Lee, of Sterling, Kansas; one sister, Delores Branecky, and husband, Arnold, of Shiner. Seven grandchildren: Shelly Martin Parker, and husband, Nathan, of Yoakum; Kristopher Martin, of Lafayette, Louisiana; Katelyn Kuck, of Falls Church, Virginia; Lindsey Kuck, of College Station; Gretchen Kuck and Reagan Kuck, of LaGrange; and, Garrett Sankey, of Sterling, Kansas. Two great-grandchildren: Noah Parker and Abigail Parker.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Janice, who died February 17, 2015; and by his parents, Walter and Leonitha Kuck.
