Waelder Lady Cats open with win

WAELDER — Waelder began their girls’ basketball season with a 35-34 win at home against Grangeron Tuesday.

“It was a really great game, down to the seconds,” Waelder’s head coach Martha Zuniga said.

Brejhai Montgomery led the team with points with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Malorie Puente had seven points, seven rebounds, two steals and four assists. Honesty Fields had seven points and 11 rebounds while Kelsey Gonzales had three points, five assists and three rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats next game is on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at home against McDade, with tipoff set at 5 p.m.
