Voting for runoff underway, Election Day Tuesday

Posted

Early voting concludes tomorrow for races in the Democratic and Republican party runoffs in Gonzales County. If you cannot make that deadline, polls will again be open Tuesday on Election Day at various spots across the area.

Both ballots are short, which should mean that voters can expect to spend no more than five minutes selecting their party and filling out the ballots at the polling locations. Gonzales GOP voters will have one race to choose from while Democrats will have two.

Both parties will be selecting a candidate to replace former Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi), who quit congress in April. Gonzales Republicans will have to pick between Michael Cloud of Victoria or Bech Bruun of Corpus Christi, their lone ballot contest. Democrats will have to choose either Raul (Roy) Barrera or Eric Holguin, both from Corpus Christi.

Democrats will have one more race on the ballot, a contest for their gubernatorial choice for November's General Election to face Greg Abbott. The candidates are Lupe Valdez and Andrew White.

Early voting locations continue through tomorrow from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. at three locations across the county. Any voter in any precinct can vote at these locations. They are:

• Randle-Rather Building lobby, 427 St. George St., Gonzales

• Nixon City Building, 100 W. 3rd St., Nixon

• Waelder City Building, 300 Hwy. 90 W., Waelder
