Viola Annie Holt, 74, of Harwood, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. She was born Feb. 12, 1939 in Flatonia, the daughter of Charlie and Lena Syrnek Koricanek. She married Donald Scott Holt on May 9, 1960.

Viola was a longtime rancher, a member of the Independent Cattlemens Association and the Southwest Cattlemens Association. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Clark Baptist Church.

She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Her hands created some of the most beautiful creations, which she rarely kept for herself. She always had an endless supply of Dr. Pepper and peppermint candy. Viola was well known for her ability to make the most delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, the sweetest dewberry jelly, and the stoutest home made wine. Being an active rancher, she handled most everything involved including clearing brush by hand. She loved to fish and she shared that joy with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by sons David Holt and wife Carolyn of Gonzales and Matt Holt and wife Christy of Tenneesee; daughter Betty Holt of Gonzales; daughter-in-law Leslie Holt Petrek and husband Blake of Harwood; step-daughters Donnie Jackson and husband Roy of Austin, Sue Lambie and husband Andy of Houston, and Gayle Holt of Houston; sister Mille Owens of Flatonia; brothers Walter Koricanek and wife Betty of Nordheim and Allene Phillipus and husband Jerry of Flatonia. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents, husband, daughter Kathryn Schulle, son John Holt, sisters Rosie Hunter and Elsie Catchings, brothers Emil, Frank, Joe, Jim, Louis and Fred Koricanek.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Lowery officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home 906 St. Paul St., Gonzales, 830-672-3232.
