Tomasa is also survived by her loving mother, Candelaria Muñoz, and ten siblings Martha Muñoz of Corpus Christi, Crescencia Muñoz, Maria Tovar, Cruz Muñoz, Lena Martinez, Ismael Muñoz, Teresa Reyes, Norma Melendez, Carmela Acevedo of Nixon, and Estevan Muñoz Jr. of Tyler, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Tomasita Arriaga, and first husband Crescencio Arriaga.

Born on Dec. 21, 1947 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Tomasa is the eldest of 15 children born to wonderful parents the late Estevan Muñoz and Candelaria Muñoz.

At the tender age of 13, Tomasa began working to help provide for her family. For over 55 years, she worked extremely hard, taking satisfaction in performing her job duties to the fullest. Known for being headstrong and strong-willed, Tomasa lived her life with a burning desire to make the best of it. She chose what she wanted out of life, held on to it, and gave everything in return. As someone motivated, ambitious, and intelligent, Tomasa built a beautiful life and encouraged others to become the best possible version of themselves. She was incredibly generous and always made guests feel welcome in her home.

Blessed with the gift of gab and special flair, Tomasa was a beautiful and charming woman with the natural ability to captivate people. Tomasa could light up a room with her smile and grace. She was well known by many in Guadalupe and Gonzales County and had countless number of friends who sought her wisdom, advice, and companionship. Her witty personality, high intellect, and uplifting sense of humor were legendary. There are endless stories of her playful antics with family and friends. She lived her life with excitement and was extremely funny and so much fun to be around.

Tomasa had the steadfast love for her husband, children, and grandchildren and lived her life ensuring their happiness. She was the heart of the family and pillar of the home. Tomasa had a natural gift for cooking and relied only on instinct to create delicious, amazing meals for her family and friends.

Tomasa was passionate about gardening. She loved spending her retirement tending to her large flower garden and especially loved hydrangeas and roses. She took pride in the splendor and beauty of all the flowers in the backyard of her home.

God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw her tired face. He put his arms around Tomasa and lifted her to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful; he always takes the best. He knew she was suffering; he knew she was in pain. He knew that she would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed her weary eyelids and whispered, “Peace bethine.” It broke our hearts to lose her, but she didn’t go alone. For a part of us went with her, the day God called her home. Tomasa will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege to be part of her life. We thank our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for sharing her with us and allowing us to know and love her all these years.

Tomasa had been diagnosed with a serious illness, but her zest and energy to live ended after going into sudden cardiac arrest.
