Posted

A sudden thunderstorm with strong winds and large hail blew through Gonzales on late Sunday afternoon.

The storm lasted about 15 minutes but produced some large golf-ball size hail all around the city and county.

According to GVEC, the high winds of over 45 miles per hour caused some minor power outages, but power was quickly restored on Sunday evening.

Accounts of some automobile and roofing damage have been reported throughout the county.

A warning was sent out the United States Weather Service on Sunday afternoon warning residents of the approaching thunderstorm. A second warning was sent out by the Weather Service warning Gonzales County residents that the coastal plain of Texas is under a critical fire weather condition warning. Residents are asked not to burn anything as the area will remain dangerous until more moisture comes to the area.
