  • Jan. 10, first brand recorded, JP, by Green DeWitt

1893:

  • Jan. 31, Mr. Logan Brelsford resigned the office of deputy sheriff of Slayden, much to the regret of his many friends.

1923:

  • Jan. 20, just east of the Hoskins Building, on St. George Street, (Block 34) the Gonzales Telephone Company had a reception in its new brick building, built where the Frederick Reese residence had been razed.

1927:

  • Five million pounds of pecans shipped from Gonzales County

1928:

  • Jan. 5, 40 carloads of feathers sold to a Chicago firm by Stahl Brothers.

1934:

  • Jan. 5, Sheriff Hart found shot in home at jail
  • Jan. 27, Gonzales Production Credit Association organized

1935:

  • Jan. 3, Mrs. D.T. Person opened a new flower shop in the Person home (on St. Louis St.)

1937:

  • Jan. 7, ground broken for Memorial Museum

1940:

  • Jan. 11, NYA has set up sixty workshops throughout Texas, since its inception in June 1938. Unemployed youth are given work experience as well as earning money.
  • Jan. 22, heavy snow blankets most of Texas, with Gonzales getting 4”
  • Jan. 24, the second floor of the Episcopal Rectory burns (Block 46)

1947:

  • Jan. 30, first of 200 street signs put on corners, white reinforced concrete post with four sides and with black letters and numerals inset
