Thanks for putting my thoughts into words

Dear Mr. Torres,

First, I read your editorials because I think you’re a good writer. I like your honesty and directness. Friday, I read “Fear 2016.” Thank you for putting many of my thoughts and feelings into sensible words. I haven’t tried to do that yet.

Though I can’t claim to understand your disappointment, I can share my own. I am disappointed that the country I live in has elected someone I fear. When he first announced his run, my reaction was fear. Someone I respect very much told me not to worry, that his running for president was simply a passing joke, done for attention. I wanted to believe that was true. I watched as it became more and more obvious that my first instinct was right.

I watched as he and some of his supporters directed anger and vitriol toward people who are minorities in this country, toward women, toward John McCain, and the list continues. I see the hate groups who are more emboldened to act now, and again, I am afraid.

I do not believe the majority of people that voted for him would ever support such groups; however, it’s time for those who voted for him and those who didn’t to speak against actions that will hurt America and any of her people.

Respectfully,

Linda Hunter
