Texas voter registration deadline is Oct. 5

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election in the state of Texas is Monday, Oct. 5, 2020.

While you cannot register to vote online, you can check that you are registered at your current address and print a voter registration form to fill out and mail to the election office before Oct. 5 by visiting VoteTexas.gov. Registration forms should be mailed to Lona Ackman, County Clerk at 427 St. George St., Suite 200, Gonzales TX 78629.

If you would like to register to vote in person, you may do so at the Election Clerk’s office. 

Those who would like to vote by mail are encouraged to plan ahead. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Oct. 23, with the return deadline being postmarked Nov. 3. There are specific criteria which need to be met in order to vote by mail, such as:

  • being away from your county on Election Day and during the hours that early voting is conducted;
  • being sick or disabled;
  • being 65 years of age or older on Election Day; or
  • being confined in jail.

Early in-person voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. beginning Oct. 13 and ending Oct. 30, 2020. Early voting locations are:

  • Randle Rather Building, 427 St. George Street, Gonzales TX 78629
  • City of Waelder Building, 300 HWY 90 W, Waelder TX 78959
  • City of Nixon Building, 100 W. 3rd Street, Nixon TX 78140

For early voting, a photo ID will be necessary. Any polling location may be chosen, regardless of which precinct your physical address falls in.
