Two country acts very familiar with the Gonzales area will play at the last Friday show of this year’s Main Street Concert Series. D.J. Richter and Texxas will open up the show at 6 p.m. and Jarrod Birmingham will close it out at 8:45 p.m.

Birmingham is a 25-year veteran of the Texas country scene and has toured all over the world. He has also recorded with Waylon Jennings’s band and toured with Merle Haggard. More recently, he was awarded a position on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame where he shares company with George Strait and Selena.

Birmingham has played at the Come and Take It Festival before, but this upcoming appearance makes his first at the Concert Series.

“I’ve been wanting to get into the summer series for a while and I’m sure glad they let us,” Birmingham said.

Birmingham had high praise for Gonzales saying, “they’re a great music crowd and dancing crowd.” Those who haven’t had the opportunity to see Birmingham, you shouldn’t expect to be disappointed, in fact he even offered a “money back guarantee” on this free show if you are.

In between Birmingham’s and Richter’s sets, the renowned South Texas Camp of Champions twirlers will perform a show.

D.J. Richter is a Gonzales local. He took over the mantle as the lead of Texxas after his father passed in 2014. After some shuffling of the band, the current incarnation has been together going on five years. Of the music his band plays, he said, “you come see us, you’re going to want to drink a beer.”

Richter and Texxas take the stage at 6 p.m. while Birmingham will come on at 8:45 p.m. Around 8 p.m. is when the South Texas Camp of Champions halftime show is.
