GONZALES – Put your poker face on, it’s Casino Night. No need to catch a bus, or board a plane or riverboat to play the tables, Gonzales Independent School District Education Foundation is bringing the tables to you.

Whether you like blackjack, craps, roulette or poker, the foundation has arranged a place at a table for your enjoyment. Through the generosity of businesses, donors and philanthropists, a full-on betting and winning casino will be in Gonzales, for one night only.

All the fun and games is for a good cause as funding for schools has become difficult in recent years, the foundation has tried to give something back to the teachers who are so dedicated to Gonzales’ students. Since 2011, the foundation has set up fundraisers to raise money and do good things for the schools and students and teachers in this school district. The proceeds from this event will go toward another year of foundation-funded teacher grants.

Each year the foundation distributes teacher grants to educators who have innovative ideas to broaden their teaching horizons and deepen the learning experience their students have while inside of the classroom.

Last year recipient Susan Hollimin created the Reading Incentive Game and was able to improve the reading of some troubled readers by as much as four grade levels in the course of just one school year.

A grant awarded this year has been dedicated to a field trip which will enable students to have a hands-on interactive learning experience at the Meadows Center.

Other grants have provided students with learning tools, such as graphing calculators and tablets.

If you want to get in on some of the good things being done for Gonzales’ students, Jan. 20 is the last day to reserve a table or get tickets to this prize-studded event. Be the last to reserve your High Roller Table – there is just one left – for $2,000; get a VIP table for $600; or get your individual ticket for $50. All sales are pre-event, no tickets will be sold at the door.

When you arrive at Casino Night you will receive $1,000 in chips upon entry. High Roller sponsors will receiver $20,000 in chips. These chips can be used at all gaming tables. If Lady Luck is not on your side on the first go around, you can buy back in throughout the night. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.

Throughout the night there will be several 52-card drawings. A one-card chance is $20. The prizes up for grabs include: L’Auberge Resort Package for two, Vitalogy Skin Care Package, Leopold binoculars, a Photo shoot with Courtney Rea Photography, wireless headphones, a pallet of grass, gift baskets donated by the Apache Booster Club and the Chamber of Commerce, a Cabela’s $250 gift card, and gift cards to Amazon, Outback Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse and many more.

Casino Night is Saturday, Jan. 28 at J.B. Wells Expo Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.

A steak dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The GISD Education Foundation appreciates your support. By donating to this event, you are contributing directly to the dollar amount that the foundation is able to award for education enrichment programs.
