Stephen Scott “Steve” Sanders

Stephen Scott “Steve” Sanders, 62, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018. He was born July 29, 1956 in Gonzales, the son of Virgil and Mary Rose Shanklin Sanders. He was a graduate of Gonzales High School.

Steve worked for many years with the Gonzales Housing Authority in building maintenance alongside his best friend, Cora Wallace. He was fond of breeding and raising pit bull terriers and was affectionately known by his friends as “Dog Man”. He was an accomplished guitar player and loved Christian music. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Vanessa Miller and husband Robert of Schertz, Amy Riojas and husband Chris of Seguin, Tiffany Sanders and husband Mike of Gonzales, Stevie Reeves and husband Joseph of Gonzales, and Keisha Humphrey of New York; brother, Michael “Mike” Sanders and wife Nancy of Gonzales; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Gloria Annette Sanders.

Visitation was held from 9 - 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Lowery officiating. Interment was at St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Riojas, Michael Medina, Joseph Reeves, Isaiah Sanders, Robert Cantu III, Braxton Sanders and Jeff Perez. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
