Stabbing lands woman in jail

GONZALES — A Beckville woman was arrested last Friday after she allegedly stabbed her common-law husband.

Gonzales Police Capt. Allen Taylor reported that at 11:32 a.m. May 9, officer Rhegan Davis was dispatched to the 1000 block of Henry St. in reference to a disturbance in progress. While en route to the scene, Davis was informed that a person at the location had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, Davis was informed by the victim, Curtis James Donald, 41, of Beckville, that his common-law spouse had cut him with a knife. Davis additionally observed what appeared to be scratch marks on Donald’s chest as well as lacerations to his left wrist.

Davis then arrested the spouse — Christine Marie Stelly, 43, of Beckville  — and charged her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was taken into custody at the Gonzales County jail.

Police are also investigating a suspected shooting in the 1100 block of Hamilton St. Saturday.

At 11:10 a.m. May 10, Officer Davis was dispatched to Gonzales Memorial Hospital in reference to a shooting victim identified as Ronald Ford Logan, 61, of Gonzales.

“[Logan] said he was unsure as to what occurred, advised he was jumped by three male subjects,” Taylor said. “He said he was unclear as to what race they were, and did not know if he was struck in the head with some type of object or not.”

Taylor said Logan did suffer an injury to his left foot, which appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Logan was later taken to the Seguin hospital and treated for his injuries. The case is currently under investigation.

A 16-year-old girl was taken into custody May 8 after what started as a routine warrant arrest led to a foot chase and subsequent altercation with police officers.

At 4:15 p.m. May 8, Sgt. Bethany McBride was dispatched to the 1000 block of Henry St. to serve an immediate custody warrant to a 16-year-old female. When As McBride attempted to detain the girl, she fled on foot, leading McBride on a chase that resulted in the juvenile resisting arrest.

  Officer Travis Sowell then arrived, assisting McBride in the apprehension of the girl. A search of the girl’s vehicle led to the discovery of a useable amount of marijuana. The girl was charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, evading arrest and possession of marijuana. She was later taken into custody at the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center in Seguin.

Police are also investigating an incident in which a Gonzales man discovered that someone had fired shots at the tailgate of his truck.

At 8:08 p.m. May 6, Officer Tanner Swake was dispatched to the 700 block of Oil Patch Lane in reference to a vehicle that had been shot. The complainant informed Swake he had heard what sounded like four gunshots earlier in the day (specifically between 1 and 1:20 a.m.)

The man told police he had gone outside and noticed that someone had shot the tailgate of his truck, and that his back window was shattered. Taylor said a slug was recovered from the bed of the truck.

There are no suspects in the case at this time, and the case is currently under investigation, Taylor said.
