St. Paul sweeps in tournament play

SAN ANTONIO — Shiner St. Paul traveled to San Antonio for the SA Lutheran tournament, winning all three games played by an average margin of 33 points per game.

The Lady Cardinals first win was against the River City Believers. Two Lady Cardinals outscored the entire Believers teams by themselves as Shiner St. Paul won 75-12.

Parker Clay led the way with 21 points, shooting 58.8 percent from the field. She added four rebounds, one assist and one steal to her stat line. Right behind was Grace Irvin with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals. DeLynn Pesek also had double-digit scoring, coming away with 10 points, one assist, one block and one steal. Christine Wagner led the team in assists with seven, while adding six points, one block and one steal. Gracey Novosad had seven points, five rebounds, three assists and a team-leading five points. The team totaled 22 steals. Riley Johnson and Wagner led the team in rebounds with eight-rebounds each.

St. Paul knocked off the hosts 54-22 with Novosad leading the scoring for the Lady Cardinals. She finished the game with 15 points, three rebounds, one assist and five steals. Johnson finished with eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Wagner had four points, three rebounds, one assist and a team-leading seven steals.

The Cardinals finished out the tournament with a 55-41 win over Round Rock Christian. Pesek’s effective shooting, going 8-of-13 from the field, plus an additional 3-of-6 from the free-throw line led to her team-leading 20 points. She added six rebounds and two steals to the stat sheet. Novosad came away with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Shiner St. Paul hosts Yoakum tonight, with tipoff scheduled at 7:15 p.m.
