St. Paul tennis players qualify for state

Shiner St. Paul tennis competed in the regional tournament on Thursday, March 28, with all participants qualifying for the state tournament which will be held in Waco April 10-11.

Girls Singles:

  • Brook Pesek - Regional Runner-Up - 8-5 vs Bulverde Bracken; 8-2 vs Chinquapin; 1-8 vs Temple Holy Trinity
  • Danni Blair - 5th Place - 8-0 vs Briarwood; 1-8 vs Brazosport; 8-0 vs O'Connell; 8-3 vs Bracken

Girls Doubles:

  • Gracey Novosad/Christine Wagner - District Champs - 8-2 vs Bracken; 8-2 vs Bracken
  • Catherine Brown/Maria Janecek - 8-0 vs Bryan Allen; 6-8 vs Bracken; 8-3 vs Bracken

Boys Doubles:

  • Patrick Green/Lane Jackson - 4th Place - 8-5 vs Briarwood; 0-6, 1-6 vs Bracken; 2-8 vs Briarwood
  • Jeff Decou/Sebastian Rendon-Lopez - 6th Place - 2-8 vs Briarwood; 2-8 vs Chinquapin

Apaches winless in district

The Apaches were run-ruled 13-0 last Friday at home against their rivals, the Cuero Gobblers. Gonzales then lost 7-0 at Poteet on Tuesday, dropping to 0-5 in District 30-4A.

The baseball team travels to La Vernia (4-1) on Friday before hosting Pleasanton (3-2) next Friday, April 12. Both games are set to start at 6:30 p.m.

Lady Apaches eliminated from playoff contention

With three games to go in the district season, the Gonzales Lady Apaches are officially eliminated from playoff contention after losing 21-7 last Friday against the Cuero Lady Gobblers and losing Tuesday against Navarro 9-1. Gonzales hosts Poteet (4-5) on Friday before traveling to Pleasanton (5-4) on Tuesday. In the first round of games, Gonzales lost 7-4 against Poteet and 16-1 against Pleasanton.

Mustangs split games, move to 2-2

Nixon-Smiley took down their rivals, the Stockdale Brahmas, 4-2 at home last Friday, March 29 before losing 7-3 against Poth on Tuesday. The Mustangs host Luling (2-2) on Friday before traveling to Karnes City (0-4) on Tuesday, April 9 to begin the second half of district play.

Luling climbs out early district hole to win 2 straight

Luling run-ruled Karnes City 12-1 last Friday before outlasting Stockdale in extra innings, beating the Brahmas 5-4 in nine innings on Tuesday. The Eagles move to 2-2 in district play. Luling travels to Nixon-Smiley (2-2) on Friday before hosting Yoakum (4-0) on Tuesday to begin the second half of district play.

Lady Mustangs split games

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs split their last two games, beating Stockdale 30-20 last Friday while losing 19-1 to Poth on Tuesday. The Lady Mustangs (1-4) host Luling (2-3) tomorrow before traveling to Karnes City (5-0) on Tuesday, April 9. In their previous matchup, Nixon-Smiley lost games, 17-4 to Luling and 16-0 to Karnes City.

Luling takes fourth place in district

The Luling Lady Eagles lost 15-0 to Karnes City before run-ruling Stockdale 14-4 on Tuesday. They travel to Nixon-Smiley (1-3) on Friday before hosting Yoakum (3-2) next Tuesday. They knocked off the Lady Mustangs 17-4 the last time they played while losing 17-1 to Yoakum earlier this year.

Cardinals take first loss in district play

Shiner St. Paul split their baseball games last week, beating San Marcos Hill Country Christian 12-2 on March 26 before losing 8-1 against Bulverde Bracken Christian. The Cardinals moved to 3-1 in TAPPS District 4-Div. IV behind Bracken Christian (4-0). They played Victoria Faith Academy on Wednesday, April 3 but results were unavailable before press time. They take on San Antonio St. Gerard on Friday and later Bulverde Living Rock on April 9.
