Lady Apaches soccer lose opener

Gonzales opened the season with a 6-0 loss in a road girls soccer game against Taylor. The Lady Apaches travel to Bandera for a non-district game on Jan. 15.

Shiner St. Paul blowout Bryan St Joseph

The Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals knocked off Bryan St. Joseph on the road 44-26, opening the first quarter with a 12-0 advantage. St. Paul outscored St. Joseph 8-3 in the second and 13-11 in the third before St. Joseph had a 12-11 advantage in the fourth to end the game with an 18-point win. Riley Johnson led the team in scoring with 15 points, adding two rebounds and three steals to her stat line. Gracey Novosad had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Grace Irvin added seven points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals. St. Paul hosts Bulverde Bracken Christian next Friday, Jan. 18 for TAPPS 5-2A district play.

Apaches split district games

Gonzales traveled to Poteet to take on the Aggies on the road for a District 30-4A tilt on Jan. 4. The Apaches won 53-49. Gonzales then hosted Pleasanton on Jan. 8, losing to the state-ranked Eagles 97-37. Gonzales sits 2-2 in district, fourth behind Pleasanton (3-0), La Vernia (3-0) and SA Brooks Academy (2-1). Behind the Apaches are Cuero (1-2), Navarro (1-3) and Poteet (0-4). Gonzales plays SA Brooks on Friday, then is on a district bye on Tuesday, though they’ll play San Marcos HomeSchool at home for a non-district game.

Lady Apaches extends win streak to 3

The Lady Apaches traveled to Poteet, beating the home squad 69-32 in the District 30-4A matchup on Jan. 4. The team then hosted Pleasanton, blowing out the Lady Eagles 62-33 to move to 3-2 in district, third place behind Cuero (5-0) and La Vernia (4-1), both teams who previously beat Gonzales. Behind the Lady Apaches are Navarro (3-3), Pleasanton (2-3), Poteet (1-4) and SA Brooks Academy (0-5). The Lady Apaches take on SA Brooks on Friday before their bye on Tuesday to begin the second half of district play.

Mustangs win in non-district home game

Nixon-Smiley held a non-district game on Jan. 4, beating Dilly 47-43.

Lady Mustangs lose district opener

Nixon-Smiley lost their District 27-3A opener against Karnes City at home 90-29 on Jan. 4. Karnes City is currently ranked 8th in Class 3A.

Luling wins in high-scoring non-district bout

Luling hosted Blanco on Jan. 4 for a non-district game, beating the Panthers 79-71.

State-ranked Lady Eagles win district opener

The Luling Lady Eagles, now ranked 25th in the TABC Class 3A state poll, took down Yoakum on the road 49-31 to open District 27-3A play on Jan. 4.

Wildcats bounce back from loss

Waelder took down Fayetteville 44-39 on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to move to 2-1 in district. The Wildcats take on McDade on the road on Friday before their bye on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Waelder is now 2-1 in district, third in District 30-1A behind Moulton (4-0) and Dime Box (3-1). Below the Wildcats are Round Top-Carmine 2-2, Fayetteville (1-2), Prairie Lea (0-3) and McDade (0-3).
