State-ranked Lady Apaches unbeaten in district

The Gonzales Lady Apaches (3-0) remain unbeaten in District 30-4A, knocking off Navarro 51-43 on the road on Tuesday. The #22 Lady Apaches are on top of the district. They host Poteet (0-3) on Friday before traveling to Pleasanton (1-2) on Tuesday.

Apaches drop to 0-2 in district

The Gonzales Apaches lost close to Navarro, dropping 56-51 on the road on Tuesday. The Apaches host Poteet on Friday with tipoff scheduled at 8:30 p.m.

Mustangs lose close in non-district game

Coming back from the holidays, the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs dropped to 5-12 overall after losing 51-46 against Nordheim. Down 19-6 by the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs outscored Nordheim 12-11 in the second quarter, 17-14 in the third and 11-7 in the fourth, ultimately losing by five points. Jesse Riojas led the team in scoring with 17 points, followed by Dusty Mejia with 12, Zach Perez with six, Santos Pompa with four, Benito Perez with three and Brayden Martinez and Jayden Brassell with two points each.

Wildcats begin 2020 with two back-to-back wins

The Waelder Wildcats won a non-district game last Friday 77-45 against Weimar, before continuing district play on Tuesday, knocking off Round Top-Carmine 63-37 to move to 18-6 overall, 2-0 in district. The #15 Waelder Wildcats host #17 Moulton on Friday, with tipoff after the girls game. They then travel to Fayetteville on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Apaches boys soccer overwhelm IDEA Montopolis

The Gonzales Apaches soccer team won 6-0 against IDEA Montopolis on Tuesday, with Antonio Hernandez scoring two goals, Adrian Rodriguez scoring two goals, Daniel Cruz scoring one and Carols Mendoza scoring one. The Apaches travel to Pleasanton this weekend for a tournament before traveling to Highlands for a non-district game next Tuesday, Jan. 14.

State-ranked Lady Eagles knock off Yorktown

The #24 Luling Lady Eagles beat Yorktown, the 23rd ranked team in Class 2A, 64-46 in a non-district home game Tuesday night. Aja Holmes led the team in scoring with 28 points, adding nine rebounds, five assists, seven steals and three blocks to her stat total. McKenna Martin had 12 points, three rebounds and one assist. Caitlin Smith had a team leading eight steals along with seven points, three rebounds, three assists and one block. Luling host Yoakum to open district play before traveling to Poth on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Lady Cardinals win close against Faith Academy

The Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals won 33-29 against Victoria Faith Academy, coming back from a 13-2 deficit in the first quarter. St. Paul outscored Faith Academy 16-6 in the fourth quarter for the win. The Lady Cardinals travel to Bulverde Bracken Christian this Friday before traveling to San Antonio to take on St. Gerard next Tuesday, Feb. 14.
