Umpire association meeting set

The Tri-County Softball Umpire Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Hallettsville ISD Boardroom. Anyone interested in umpiring is encouraged to attend. Lady Eagles finish third in district, will take on Industrial Tuesday

The Luling Lady Eagles will take on Industrial in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in Cuero at 7 p.m. For more on other matchups, go to gonzalesinquirer.com.

Eagles knock off Mustangs, remain up top district

The Luling Eagles hosted Nixon-Smiley, beating the Mustangs to continue to fight for a District 27-3A title. The Mustangs (0-8), meanwhile, were eliminated from playoff contention.

Luling (7-1) travels to Yoakum (2-6) on Tuesday before hosting Poth (7-1) on Friday for what could be a game that determines the district champion as both teams have just one loss.

Nixon-Smiley hosts Karnes City (5-3) on Tuesday before traveling to Yoakum for their season finale.

Lady Mustangs fighting for fourth

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs lost their final district game of the season against the Luling Lady Eagles to finish tied for fourth with Yoakum (3-7). Nixon-Smiley and Yoakum will compete in a play-in game on Friday, Feb. 8 in Luling. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.

Apaches score 10 in two straight games

The Gonzales boys soccer team continued their hot scoring streak by beating Santa Gertrudis Academy 10-1 last Friday and Rice Consolidated 10-3 on Tuesday. The Apaches travel to Fredericksburg on Friday then travel to Bandera on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
