Apaches outscore Pettus on the road

The Gonzales Apaches boys basketball team knocked off Pettus on the road 58-37 in a non-district bout. The Apaches travel to Goliad for a tournament this weekend before hosting Boling on New Year’s Eve next Tuesday, Jan. 31 for a 1:15 p.m. game. The team starts district play against Cuero on Friday, Jan. 3.

Lady Apaches open district with win

District play began for Gonzales as the Lady Apaches traveled to La Vernia on Friday, beating the Lady Bears 40-33. The team travels to Beeville this weekend for a tournament, then travel to Wimberley on Jan. 31 for a noon game.

Mustangs drop non-district game

Nixon-Smiley lost 45-35 at home against Kenedy last Friday in a non-district game. The Mustangs host a holiday invitational this Friday and Saturday before going on a break. They then travel on Jan. 3 to take on McMullen County.

Nixon-Smiley won 43-35 against Hallettsville Sacred Heart last Thursday, Dec. 19 in a home non-district game. The Lady Mustangs host a holiday invitational this Friday and Saturday before going on a break. They then travel on Jan. 3 to take on McMullen County.

Lady Eagles overwhelm Austin Eastside

The Luling Lady Eagles blew out Austin Eastside at home last week 77-14. Aja Holmes had 22 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals. Viridiana Munoz added 20 points, five rebounds, six steals and 11 steals while Norianna Monigold had 12 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and four steals. Senior Valerie Bermudez led the team in assists with eight, adding 12 points and three steals to the stat line. The team shot 44% from the field and 92% from the free-throw line.
