Nixon-Smiley takes on Shiner Tournament
The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs traveled to Shiner last weekend for a two-day tournament, winning one of their five games played. On Friday, they lost to Shiner in three sets, (23-25, 25-18, 25-11), Brackett in two sets (25-20, 26-24) and Stockdale in two sets (25-23, 25-17) before beating Flatonia in three sets (20-25, 25-22, 25-18). They closed the tournament with another two-set loss to Stockdale (25-15, 25-22).

Lady Cardinals sweep Rice CISD
Shiner St. Paul took on Rice CISD on the road on Tuesday, beating them in three sets, (25-17, 27-25, 25-17). Grace Irvin had five kills, one block and two digs; Riley Johnson had five digs, three aces; Hope Kapavik had eight digs, five aces; Gracey Novosad had seven kills, six digs, 12 assists and two aces; Delynn Pesek had 14 kills, one block, three digs; and Christine Wagner had two kills, 16 assists, three digs and three aces.
The junior varsity team won (25-22, 25-18). Stat leaders include Tristin Davis with three kills; Maria Janacek one kill, five digs, three aces; Lauryn Kubenka five kills; Brooke Pesek one kill, five digs, two aces; Grace Prove 16 assists, one dig and two aces; Kelli Soefje two kills, two digs, four aces; Sadie Thibodeaux one kill, three digs, one ace; and Rebecca Wagner one kill, two digs, two aces. The freshmen team lost in two sets, (25-14, 25-20).
Shiner St. Paul host Spring Providence Classical tonight before hosting Flatonia on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
